Antonio Chacra

Dr. Antonio R.Chacra is currently Professor of Medicine and the Chief of the Endocrinology Department at the Federal University of  Sao Paulo, Brazil. After completing his residency training in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, he spent two years as a research fellow in diabetes and metabolism at the Southwestern Medical School, University of Texas, in Dallas,USA.

Dr.Chacra was for six years Vice President of the International Diabetes Federation and has served as a member of the working group WHO/IDF. He was also the President of the Executive Committee of the Harvard-Joslin-SBD Diabetes Education Program. In the past, Dr.Chacra has been President of several diabetes societies, including the Latin American Diabetes Association, the Brazilian Diabetes Society and the Brazilian Endocrinology and Metabolism Society (Sao Paulo section). He has also served for eight years as Editor-in-Chief of  the Brazilian Archives of Endocrinology and Metabolism. Dr.Chacra is basically an academic very much envolved with diabetes continuing medical education.He is the Chairman of the very traditional Advanced Course in Diabetes Treatment, organized yearly in Sao Paulo. He was also the President of the 12º Latin American Diabetes Congress, which was held in Sao Paulo in 2004. He has authored multiple scientific articles particularly in the field  of diabetes. Dr.Chacra is well known in Latin America for his dedication and commitment to diabetes education. Dr. Chacra is the Chief of the Clinical Diabetes Research Center of the Federal University of Sao Paulo in Brazil and has participated in more than 30 clinical trials as Principal Investigator.
