Professor Dr Schumm-Draeger is a professor of internal medicine at the University rechts der Isar School of Medicine in Munich, Germany. In addition, she is the director of the Clinic for Endocrinology, Diabetology and Angiology at the Academic Teaching Hospital of Munich Bogenhausen. She received her medical degree and her doctoral degree with honours from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University of Frankfurt School of Medicine in Frankfurt, Germany.

Professor Dr Schumm-Draeger is involved in research in experimental and clinical endocrinology, experimental and clinical diabetology and metabolism, and clinical angiology. She has published over 150 original articles, with more than 100 of these as the senior author; over 25 book chapters and reviews; and over 300 abstracts. She has served as an editor and reviewer for many journals and is active in many national and international scientific societies.
