Philip Home is a Consultant Physician in Diabetes and Metabolic Medicine at the Newcastle Diabetes Centre in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, and Professor of Diabetes Medicine at Newcastle University. He is also a senior consultant to many of the major international pharmaceutical companies, and is Vice-Chair of the National Institute for Clinical Excellence's (UK) Appraisal Committee for new drugs and technologies.
A past President of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in Europe, Vice-President of IDF (global), and past Chair of its Clinical Guidelines Task Force, Professor Home is currently head of the Programme Committee for the IDF World Diabetes Congress 2009 in Montreal. In the UK, he holds the position of Clinical Lead to the UK Type 2 Diabetes Guidelines Initiative, having been Senior Clinical Advisor to the NICE Type 1 Diabetes Guidelines Development Group. He has also been Editor of Diabetic Medicine, as well as being involved in editorial boards for many other international diabetes journals, including being Editor-in-Chief of Diabetes Voice. Professor Home has authored over 330 papers, books and reviews on aspects of diabetes. His particular research and development interests lie in new insulins and insulin regimens, evidenced-based guidelines and optimal delivery of diabetes care, as well as new drugs for amelioration of the metabolic disorders of diabetes.
