Itamar Raz, M.D. is a professor of Internal Medicine at Hadassah University Medical Center and the head of the Diabetes Unit and Research Center at Hadassah. He also serves as the head of the Israel National Council of Diabetes. As president of the Israel Diabetes Research Group, he collaborates with 18 other diabetologists in Israel, conducting clinical research aimed at improving the treatment of diabetic patients. He is also the president of D Cure – Diabetes Care to Cure in Israel, since 2005, a non-profit foundation involving diabetes research in various leading institutions in Israel. At Hadassah Hebrew University Hospital, Professor Raz is involved with basic research on the beta cell, insulin resistance and the diabetic kidney. He is currently leading several international clinical studies involving prevention of type 1 diabetes, protection of diabetic kidney and the diabetic heart.

Professor Raz has published extensively in the area of diabetes mellitus with over 190 publications to his credit. He also serves on a number of international advisory boards and is a member of several editorial boards. Prof. Raz has organized several international meetings dealing with diabetes, the largest being CODHy – Controversies in Obesity, Diabetes and Hypertension, including a summary of the proceedings published in a Supplement to Diabetes Care.
