Lifestyle
A smokes about 20 cigarettes a day and has done for the last 30 years.

A has abdominal obesity and does very little exercise. His father has hypertension and his mother is obese, with Type 2 diabetes.

When A was diagnosed with diabetes, he was told to cut down on the amount of processed foods he ate. Although he has reduced his intake of take-aways and desserts, his diet is still fairly high in other fatty foods and sauces. On a normal working day, he has toast with butter and a glass of orange juice for breakfast, red meat or chicken with sauce and potatoes or rice at lunchtime from a cafeteria, and a similar meal in the evening with his family, which his wife prepares. He drinks about four cups of black coffee with sugar during the day.
